The Bernal Coyote Is Alive and Well and Enjoying Dry Weather

The rains have subsided, and the Bernal Coyote seems excited about that. In the last few days, Bernalwood readers have shared many photos of the Bernal Coyote out and about on Bernal Hill, taking in the sights, wandering through the grass, and generally being rather photogenic.

The photos up above were captured  by Neighbor Chris, as the Bernal Coyote strolled through her urban oasis.

Neighbor Sig snapped this photo yesterday as well:

Neighbor Dena has turned her attention from rainbows to wildlife, and along the way she took this picture of the Bernal Coyote in what could have been a pose for an LL Bean mail-order catalog:

And finally, Neighbor Hope spotted the Bernal Coyote savoring the sun in the community garden just below Bernal Hill:

So amazing! Just remember: As much as we love the Bernal Coyote, it’s up to us to help keep her safe. Do not love her too much. Respect her space, and DO NOT FEED HER. For more expert advice on how to co-exist with the Bernal Coyote, please read this.

  1. It makes me smile looking at those photos and knowing Coyote is part of our neighborhood hill and that we are respecting not feeding him.

  2. I see you refer to the coyote as “she”. Has it been confirmed that it is a female coyote?

  3. wonderful pictures! It’s nice to know that this beautiful creature has lived on the hill in relative harmony with us for a while now…

  4. There will definitely be lots of critters for her to catch: voles, gophers, moles, insects and such. No one needs to worry about her going hungry. And if she’s not fed by people, she will keep her hunting abilities and pass them onto her pups!

  5. I met a fellow dog walker who said the coyote had approached another dog in an overly friendly manner, as if she were becoming too accustomed to domesticated animals and their owners. It must be hard to stay wild with all of us interested two-leggers cavorting on the hill!

  6. Some fools set off loud fireworks on the Hill last night.Hope it did not scare her away.
