Parked Motorcycle Is Rorschach Test for Nearby Neighbors

It’s not just cars that attract snippy notes about long-term parking; motorcycles receive them too. Neighbor Fiid noticed a running series of notes plastered on a motorcycle on Bennington Street.

Apart from the initial complaint written on the note above, notice also (at the very top) the plea for leniency based on the bike’s classic stature.

Indeed, on top of all the other notes, the motorcycle even attracted a purchase offer:

So is it a motorcycle, a nuisance, a classic work of design, or a potential acquisition target? Or maybe all four?

  1. is it a motorcycle, a nuisance, a classic work of design, or a potential acquisition target? Yes!

  2. A two-stroke engine? Even worse than a nuisance; those things pollute HORRIBLY. They oughta be banned.

      • I’m not sure what the “nuisance” comment refers to, but a 1974 2-stroke motorcycle does pollute more than a modern motorcycle. No question. Same goes for a 1974 car, truck, plane, or boat. However, consider of the environmental cost of producing a new motorcycle to replace the old one and the cost of scrapping this old one (i.e. junkyard/landfill). Wanting to blanket ban everything that isn’t your Prius or Veggie-cedes is a bit self-centered.

      • Strontium: No, that is NOT an appropriate analogy, unless you are discussing a 1974 Car/Truck/Plane/Boat with a two-stroke engine.

The problem is not that it is 40 years old. The problem is that it is a two-stroke engine, which are, by their very nature, insanely polluting.

  3. RD350?!?! Rad!!! I want it!!! Can you give me a better idea of where it is, I wanna affix a purchase note too.

Mr Doktor, The EPA has already made it illegal– more or less– to import and sell two-stroke motorbikes because yes, to have hundreds of thousands of these things on the road would be bad. But, since there are only a small amount of survivors left, old two strokes– like cars that were made before EPA mandated smog tests– get to stay on the road. You can get back to calculating your carbon foot print now πŸ˜‰

    • As noted above, the problem is not comparable to pre-smog cars, etc (unless we’re talking about cars with 2-stroke engines, like a Trabant). 2-stroke engines are in a class all by themselves when it comes to how badly they pollute.

  4. If the bike is a true nuisance, pick it up and move it. Serious.

Hold in their 2-stroke fans. Fuel Injected CARB approved 2-strokers are rumored to be imported soon!

    • Moving someones motorcycle without their permission is a great way to get punched in the face.

  5. nooooooooooooooooooooo i wrote that note. i’ve dreams for the last 6 years about owning an rd350 and thought it could have been my chance. they are legendary bikes; albeit polluters. that bike was a turd though, probably seized and such. so much rust i couldn’t believe it. the citation said the removal date was the 9th and it was gone on the 8th so the owner must have saved it.

if for some reason the owner of this bike reads this, i still really want that crusty old beast

as long as it is ridden and not turned into a cafe racer, i’ll sleep well.

    • What do you mean a “cafe racer?” Ya, Seized eh? Who knows. See you at the auctions πŸ™‚

  6. I’ll take two-stroke smoke over pot smoke any day. Bernal needs more dedicated motorcycle spots.
