I noticed on sfgate that an SF kid made the top 30. I sent the link to my daughter (away at college) who recognized her as her schoolmate at Buena Vista who used to live up the street from us on Treat. I haven’t seen her in almost 10 years so had no idea we knew her. Now I have a reason to tune into Idol again!

Uhmm… What about Adam Lambert? He is openly gay and nearly won… I forget which season.
Or did I mis-interpret the title? Is it supposed to read like “First American idol contestant to be raised in bernal heights… who also happens to be gay”?
Apparently, she’s the first to be out while still a contestant.

I would love for the phrase “openly gay” to be permanently retired. You wouldn’t say openly _____ (fill in the blank… white/black/straight/curly haired/disabled/whatever). My pet peeve.
