Coyote Sighting! This Morning! On Wool Street!

I’ll make an exception to Bernalwood’s normal “photo or it didn’t happen” policy to share this important wildlife update from Neighbor Lynne:

A coyote trotted down Wool Street at about 6:45 a.m.  It made it to cortland where it seemly freaked out and turned around and ran back up Wool.  seeing me and the three workers near the corner of eugenia and wool, turned east on eugenia.  one of the workers snapped a shot on his smart phone but alas, i didn’t have a camera on me.

Anyone else see the Bernal Coyote? Preferably, with photo documentation?

  1. Uh oh!! There go the neighborhood cats! I love coyotes, but not in my neighborhood. Worried about our cats. Urban coyotes can end up being bad news. Recently near tunnel road my dog got a chunk of his lip ripped off by one and severed two arteries, lost a lot of blood. People please do your duty of keeping these animals wild and fearing humans. Don’t feed them!! Although they are gorgeous, please yell at them, throw rocks if they seem too bold, keep them fearing humans. A city coyote that gets too used to people ends up a dead coyote.

  2. At 6:55 I was driving up Nevada, and this beautiful coyote was trotting down the street– not fazed by my car. S(he) went down to Cortland and took a left turn onto Cortland! I wish I could have been there to see the reactions, but I had to catch a train .

  3. I saw him (or one of his friends) running down Bocana on January 12th. He was coming from the hill and made a right on Cortland. It was late at night, and felt like that scene in Fantastic Mr. Fox when the wolf shows up…
I was surprised because I thought our last coyote had migrated to Glenn Park a few years back. I was informed by a neighbor that a coyote is currently living at the reservoir on Holly Park Circle and Elsie.

  4. I saw him on Bernal Hill last weekend, fairly early in the morning. There was a family of three living in Glen Canyon Park – I wonder if the offspring finally left home?

  5. About a month ago, from my living room couch, I saw a coyote running hell-for-leather straight up the middle of Park Street toward Holly Park Circle, at 7 on a Saturday morning. There was no traffic and no witnesses in sight; glad to know that I was not in fact hallucinating.

  6. I saw it also, running full out on the sidewalk on Bocana towards the Bernal Hill – I had just arrived at the stop sign on Powhatten and Wool/Bocana. Sorry no picture.
