Reader Jennifer spotted this extremely permanent typo that’s been baked into a Bernalwood sidewalk:
Saw this sign in the pavement for “Misson Street” on Mission at Fair/Valencia. Maybe there wasn’t enough budget to buy another vowel?
Yeah, things are tough all over…
UPDATE:
Reader Throgers has amassed an impressive collection of “Sidewalk Typos” in a cringe-inducing Flickr photoset. Oof.

There is one on Cortland I think at the corner of Wool too.
Also, big ups to them for using an upside down “W” instead of an “M.”
My proofreader’s heart breaks every time I step over FLORDIA STREET on my own corner, but I have to laugh when I pass nearby York Street’s No Parking for streetcleaning between 9 am and 11 pm sign.
And let’s not forget about the Bocana St. one with the backwards “B”.
Here’s my collection of these “sidewalk typos”:

Thanks! Bumped that into the post.
Cool! I should have also mentioned that the Cement Mix-Up group has a lot more good finds (http://www.flickr.com/groups/94945225@N00/). Also, I assume by “cringe-inducing”, you meant were referring to “cringes of awesomeness” 🙂 I personally love finding these- just exhibits of the randomness of life!
Pretty sure this is how it goes down.
Also, remember that the DPW sidewalk folks are working with mirrored/backwards letters, so I have some sympathy.
That would actually be a pretty fun drinking game, making stamps out of typeset letters. Not all that easy at first and progressively dyslexic as the night progressed.
Some more here, BTW.
hey my bestie found that photo of the mission street typo. cool blog. thanks for sharing it.
Treat Ave and Precita is labelled “TREAT ST” on both sides of the street.
