Though it remains unclear whether this was an act of Nature or an ad hoc effort to deter Soviet ground invasion forces, Neighbor Kimberly reports that the western end of Cortland is under blockade this morning:
Tree down on Cortland Near Eugenia. Waiting for power to be cut so they can remove.
CORRECTION: Several readers have pointed out that the downed limb is on Cortland at Prospect, not Eugenia.

This is not the first time this has occurred. I was lucky enough to avoid having a broken branch fall onto my car while driving up Cortland. Those trees should be pruned back considerably.
Right on!
I live right around there and parts of those tree’s are always falling. I hate to say this, but they need to cut them all down or trim them to the bone. Also, when those tree’s get wet, all the sap falls onto the cars and it becomes syrupy. Anyway, those tree’s need to go.
The only things that need to go are your extra apostrophes. The trees along Cortland are beautiful, and they need to stay.
Eucalyptus trees can be “self pruning” meaning branches fall off the tree at random and unpredictable times. When I lived in Southern California, whenever I saw eucalyptus trees pruned they would be severely cut down to the trunk. Within a year, the tree had branched and leafed back out, it was just jarring to see it pruned down to a stick.
IMO it’s probably best to replace the eucalyptus with some other tree variety. I ain’t in charge of these things so…
During recent winds I saw a huge limb fall from one of these trees (Cortland near Mission) that very well could have struck & knocked out a pedestrian. Seriously… how do we get them removed, as Bernal Rob suggests?
Annoying quibble: Cortland does not cross Eugenia. I think she means Coleridge?
This occurred on Cortland at Prospect. The branch smashed a poor little Honda.
I live on this block and these trees have been dropping limbs with scary frequency for years.
This is not some branch that fell. The whole tree fell over. Roots exposed and dirt everywhere.
It was actually a section of the tree that sheared off. The tree is still up, ready to drop more bits of itself onto passerby and parked cars.
I think the best way to stop this from happening again is for residents in that area to call DPW (311 should get you there) and/or write them a letter signed by several residents.
I Agree. We all should call 311.. and/or email until they get tired of us!
I was on the 24Divisadero@ 7:45am monday12 when we had to get off the bus, because SFFD hahhad Cortland Ave@Coleridge blocked. As Us angry passengers were scurring down Cortland Ave. to Mission St.,a large tree snapped, hit both electrical/muni wires. Live wires were around the passengers whom had left the bus.Thankfully ,noone was injured. It something that I wish not to experience again.
