Happy Fourth of July, Citizens of Bernalwood

Fourth of July

Fourth of July

It’s shaping up to be a lazy summer day here in our Big City small-town neighborhood. In other words, a perfect Fourth of July! Hope you’re enjoying the holiday.

UPDATE: Reader JJ San captured some of the action at night:

  1. It’s be cool if next 4th of July people didn’t risk setting the hill on fire. Dry summer grass + bottle rockets = fire hazard.

  2. Was it just me, or were the illegal fireworks completely out of control this year? They were going off all night on our side of Bernal (near Holly Park/Mission) and some seemed to be commercial-grade (or possibly weapons-grade).

  3. I’m curious to hear if that amount of ‘unofficial’ fireworks was normal or not. This was my first 4th of July here and I have never ever heard that amount of seemingly non-stop fireworks going on and on. I’ve always lived in urban areas and have never experienced anything close to this. And yeah, some of them sounded pretty commercial-grade to me (not that I would actually know, but feeling my windows shake seems like that’s not quite normal).

    • My sense — and based on some conversations with neighbors who agree — is that this year’s unofficial dispay was much bigger than usual. The nice weather may have contributed to that, but it was definitely more than usual.
