Occupy Bernal vs. Wells Fargo in Bayview

Occupy Bernal staged an anti-foreclosure protest at a Wells Fargo branch in Bayshore yesterday, and KGO-TV carries the story:

A group of protesters who said they are fighting to protect homeowners shut down a bank in San Francisco’s Bayview neighborhood this morning.

The roughly 25 protesters shut down the Wells Fargo branch at 3801 Third St. at about 11 a.m. as part of a day of action organized by the Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and Occupy Bernal.

The group is demanding that the bank stop foreclosures, evictions and predatory lending. An Occupy Bernal founder who goes by Stardust said, “We don’t want banks to rob more and more people of their homes.”

As of 1 p.m., the branch remained closed and about a dozen police officers who had been monitoring the protest were leaving.

Police said the demonstration was peaceful.

  1. I sure hope Occupy Bernal gets Wells Fargo to stop writing mortgages in the Bayview. It will be so much more prosperous than.

  2. Bernalwood: Thank you for your coverage and support of Occupy Bernal. Your site is a must read. Judge Crater – of course no one is suggesting that Wells Fargo Bank stop writing mortgages in BV-HP. Just predatory, racist ones. Predatory means suckering people into loans that Wells should have known or did know they couldn’t pay off. Like 1% interest for a few years on a 6% loan followed by a lump payment of the deferred interest. Racist because Wells pled no contest to Dept of Justice charges that they charged blacks and Latinos higher fees and interest rates for loans. The DOJ charges called out the BV-HP Wells branch that we occupied on Thursday by name in their suit vs. Wells. So next time, before you make an ignorant and nonfactual comment, check your facts, wise guy or gal as the case may be.
