As Bernalwood reported earlier, it looks like the renovation of the storefront that will soon become the Precita Park Cafe has finally started at the corner of Precita and Alabama. The plywood is up, construction has started, and we assume all sorts of magic is happening inside.
On a related note, I ran into the always-affable Charlie from Charlie’s Cafe (on the Folsom side of Precita Park) last night while I was taking the photo above. We got to talking about how the Precita Park Cafe might fare, and if it will make Precita Park itself a more sexy and glamorous destination. Time will tell, of course, but I certainly hope that a rising tide will lift all boats.

Great to see this happening. Will be happy when they paint the building, too, since it’s been an eyesore for years.
If this is from the same guy as Dolores Park Cafe (as previously reported), expect overpriced food and bad coffee. Woo-hoo!
That’s a bit of a tough location. There’s a housing project two blocks away and the nearby school’s not a chi chi one. Earlier this year someone posted signs stating that armed robberies had occurred at that corner.
I rather miss having a nearby place to grab some ice cream and beer.
I’ve eaten *once* at the Dolores park Cafe and was underwhelmed. My overpriced sandwich and meh coffee won’t sell well at Precita Park. I give it less than a year.
Are you kidding me. This place is going to be great. I live a block away and I can tell you that I am so happy to see the cafe moving in. Moms, dads, kids and people just hanging at the park will be flocking here since the playground is right across the street. : )
